Deer Shed Festival 2015 – SOLD OUT!!!
UPDATE: The Deer Shed Festival in North Yorkshire has officially sold out to its 8,000 visitor capacity in 2015. With almost 7 weeks until the Deer Shed Festival (which takes place in Baldersby Park 24th-26th July) a spokesperson for the festival jokingly suggested that there’s something uneasy about selling out with so much time to go; there’s that niggling in the back of your mind that you could have sold more tickets and created a bigger festival!!
When the people from Deer Shed Festival 6 got in touch and asked if we would like to work with them to publicise this event, I got very excited. My Sister in Law lives in the North East and I’ve heard her talk about the Deer Shed Festival a lot. The theme of the event changes veery year and after the success of last years’ Time Travel theme, this year is Up in the Air!
So what is going to be going on?
Music is only half the story, but there is an awful lot of music on offer. There is Billy Bragg, The Felice Brothers, John Grant, Villagers, Diagrams, Palace etc etc the list goes on.
It is the opportunities and experiences on offer for the whole family that make this festival a truly family event, and makes my friends and family talk about the event year on year!
Is it only for older kids? No this year there is a new dedicated workshop tent for the Under 5’s; a place where your pre-schoolers can let rip in their own space on tables their own level and make, shake, model and mould.
For the rest of the family Deer Shed Festival have teamed up with Opera North who will provide vocal workshops and Esker Art School (part of Leeds College of Art) will be offering the chance to try out screen printing, claymation and still life drawing. If you’ve always fancied wordplay then there are classes in punk poetry, and improv sessions with Edinburgh Fringe Artists, Racing Minds.
NYMAZ, a youth music development charity, will be giving people the chance to have a go on all kinds of instruments and DJ School UK will be giving masterclasses in how to spin tunes rather than play them.
As for dance, you can sign up to work with one of the UK’s leading contemporary dance experts Phoenix Dance or try your hand at Bollywood or Street dance taught by some inspiring professionals. Mix it with some martial arts and you have Capoeira, a Brazilian phenomenon that’s sweeping the nation and takes its place for the first time at Deer Shed Festival.
There is also an opportunity to try out slacklining! To find out whether slacklining could be your thing (it is for my Brother in Law!) , as well as a complete run down of what’s on offer for every family member, then go to the website at deershedfestival.com
