Brimstage Maze – Highly Recommended even in the Rain

Share

We’ve been regular summer visitors at Brimstage Maze for a few years now and every year it changes. They add something. Take something away.  Change it so it all works a little better (hopefully anyway).

The maze itself is still a key attraction but for many not the main focus. In fact we had arrived at 10.30 (opening time) and by 2pm none of the kids had even suggested we went in.

My three ran straight for the bouncing pillows; remembering them from last year. A welcome addition from last year is the yellow vests so that they can keep an eye on how many kids are on at once. Once the vests are gone the kids will have to wait until someone comes off to get on. There are also strict rules on getting off when it’s raining which is good.

The zip lines were next for my three, followed swiftly by crazy golf. Again another improvement on last year is that you get your golf clubs and ball from the larger snack hut next door to the golf rather than from the entrance, meaning the kids can get their own golf clubs and balls and return them. There is a £1 deposit but this is returned when you take the clubs back.

Laser tag remains something mine can’t master but definitely great for the older ones, together with the go karts which involve a little more strength than mine have at nearly 5 and nearly 6. Perfect for the older ones though and both are located at the far end of the site.

The sandpit has grown in size this year and incorporates the playground bit.  I thought this was a good idea for a sunny day but I imagine a little annoying in the rain as the kids will get covered in damp sand.

Speaking of rain, yes it’s still worth coming to Brimstage Maze on a rainy day. They have increased the seating areas that are under cover outside and made the indoor soft play bigger and more exciting particularly for the toddlers. One down side to this was when is threw it down at lunchtime on our visit, was that there was less space to the side of the soft play for all the adults, kids and prams. It felt a bit of a squeeze.

I treated myself to a coffee whilst inside and wish I hadn’t really: my first was a little weak although replaced happily, only for my daughter to knock it all over my foot! Ouch! In all seriousness it’s good to see you can now get coffee inside the soft play barn rather than at reception which held up the queues, but it isn’t (in my opinion) the best coffee!

We finally made it into the mini maze at 2pm. The large maze takes around an hour and you can seriously get lost although there are staff on hand to help, so I plumped for the mini maze and felt quite comfortable letting all three run around and try and lose me. You’re given a sheet to complete and find ice creams and colours. It keeps them entertained but I’ve no idea if we found the middle of the maze at all!  Lovely fun though.

Having run past the covered barns on the way in (in favour of the bouncing pillows) we finished our day there for another good hour, finally leaving at 3.30pm! This area has been completely re-done for this year and has a sandpit with bouncers in, and three large wooden houses with wonky floors, twisted rooves and flashing lights!

A good 5 hours after we arrived we left having had yet another brilliant day at Brimstage Maze. Highly recommended.

WHY NOT PIN THIS FOR ANOTHER DAY!
