3 Young Boys Storm London at Half Term

London has a very useful discount offer that is available for anyone travelling into London by train, 2 for 1 tickets for huge number of attractions. You can pick up a booklet of vouchers at any train or tube station in London. This time we used the vouchers to visit The Tower of London and Churchill’s War Rooms in Westminster.

The Tower of London is a great place to visit, with so many things to see inside the tower as well as amazing views of The Shard and Tower Bridge. We walked round the battlements, looked in the cells, gaped at the Crown Jewels and the suits of armour. There were actors all round the grounds enacting cases of people through history who have been imprisoned in the tower. The boys loved it all! My tip would be to go early, before any crowds turn up, and go see the Crown Jewels first as the queue can get very long!

We went to the Unicorn theatre which is one of the best children’s theatres in London. We saw The Minotaur, a reselling of the classic Greek myth. It was excellent and the boys were hooked on every word. My son even volunteered to be a sacrifice to the Minotaur! It is very close to London Bridge and Tower Bridge and so very easy to get to.

The next day we visited Churchill’s war rooms. There was a lot of interactive features for the boys to play with, old typewriters and phones to try as well as hats from all the armed forces and even Churchill’s favourite clothes. We loved it all! The audio guides were free and very easy to use and we were able to let the boys loose to enjoy the Churchill museum. The area around the war rooms, Trafalgar Square, Westminster and Whitehall as well as St James Park, is great to walk around and see everything from Downing Street to Buckingham Palace.

I videoed moments of our trip on my iPad and used the app iMovie to edit together a fun moments of the trip for the boys to enjoy.
